You bought a goat?
Hi there! Thank you for stopping to visit us! I’ve had several people ask me how ShadyTree Milkmaids came about so here you go! I worked full-time in town until Meritt, our youngest, was about to turn two and I didn't want to miss any more of their childhood so went part-time from home. I talked my husband into letting me buy two dairy goats, neither of which were very tame. One I decided looked like a Pearl and the other Claire. Pearl was just freshened and she and I learned a LOT about milking by hand, stanchions, milk buckets, and what NOT to do that first six months. Once we got a handle on this milking thing we started to get quite an abundance of extra milk from this short little goat. I started researching what I could make with goat milk and after I made and tried my first batch of goat milk lotion I was hooked, so was everyone else I handed a sample to! I had to come up with a name for this new venture, you know, something cute but original. I had the nickname Shadytree when I was a little sq**rt, Dad still calls me that when he thinks he has something on me or feels slighted because he hasn’t seen a container of cookies come his way in a few weeks. So, not only does that name get attached to every lotion that is made in my kitchen but also all the eggs, bread, cookies, cheese and soap (that is a few weeks away yet). Oh and back to the goats...fast forward two years and I'm still milking Pearl (along with a few others) and she will forever be my favorite goat.
