Our homegrown spring mix is back! Or I guess, is it fall mix now?

Our spring mix is chemical free and unwashed! It should be washed before consumption to get rid of pests, dirt or environmental contaminants. Completely submerge in a bowl of cool water with a dash of baking soda mixed in for about 15-30 min, then rinse and dry.

In big companies, the wash cycle is often where contamination occurs when big batches of lettuce are washed together. We use clean buckets, clean tools and wash our hands before cutting lettuce, and all the lettuce is cut by 1 person - and I’m feeling healthy as a horse! 😂 Small farms and a smaller processing chain make for a small risk of contamination!

Planting strawberries for next year’s crop! We plant our strawberries in late August/early September using raised bed plastic rows which helps warm the soil earlier and keep the berries cleaner! We also planted them further at part then usual to improve airflow for better berry growth and disease resistance. We should be harvesting these plants May 2027! How many plants do you think we planted? Guess below! 👇

Important notes for Monday August 31… here are the highlights of my market tour:

✨White corn is back!✨

Corn will still be around for a LONG time. Maybe into October!

Peaches and nectarines only a few more days!

Watermelon, cantaloupe and tomatoes a few more weeks!

Pumpkins and mums should be here by the weekend and continue through the fall!

Just because August is almost over doesn’t mean the harvest is over! We will still be picking summer crops like tomatoes, melons, peppers, sweet corn, cucumbers and zucchini well into September, plus as we get into the next month, we’ll start to pick some new fall crops! Here’s some pictures of what’s to come.

Pumpkins, winter squash, butternuts, neck pumpkins: early/mid September
Sweet potatoes, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, spring mix, spinach, ornamental corn: mid/late September
