TWO WEEKS!!! Okay, we’re officially getting excited.

We’ve rested, reset, played with some new ideas… and we are VERY ready to get back into this kitchen and start cooking for you guys again.

Sam & Jack’s reopens Thursday, October 1st!

New season. New specials. Plenty of your old favorites. And probably a few things we haven’t even thought of yet. 😂

We’ve missed you, St. John. ❤️

Apparently this is what I do during off-season instead of resting. 🤷‍♀️

I was working on another special when it dawned on me...

Why the hell have I been serving our Short Rib French Onion Soup with little Havarti Crostini's floating on top when I COULD HAVE BEEN PUTTING THE SHORT RIB FRENCH ONION INSIDE LITTLE BREAD BOMBS?!

So obviously now we're going to be doing that.

💣 SHORT RIB FRENCH ONION BOMBS

Three little homemade bread bombs stuffed with slow-braised short rib, caramelized onions & melty Havarti, topped with thyme & Parmesan and served with rich French onion jus for dunking.

It's basically our Short Rib French Onion Soup... just rearranged into a much more dunkable situation.

This feels like something I should have figured out years ago. 🤦‍♀️

Anyway. Off-season is going well over here.

One of the funny things about living on St. John is we don’t have fast food.

Which is totally fine… until you’re sitting on the couch watching TV and an Arby’s commercial comes on and suddenly all I want is a hot roast beef sandwich. 😂

You know the one… roast beef, mushrooms, cheddar. Nothing fancy. It just looked really freaking good. But we don’t have an Arby’s.

And I had leeks & parmesan, not mushrooms & cheddar… so here we are.

I’ve been thinking about these roasted leeks with heavy cream and Parmesan for a while anyway, and once I started thinking about them with rare roast beef, that was pretty much it.

Then obviously we needed Sam & Jack’s mystery sauce. Nobody here can properly describe it, and at this point we’ve stopped trying. Just trust us, it’s good.

And then because apparently simply making a sandwich wasn’t enough, homemade lemon-artichoke peasant bread sounded like a good idea too.

Little lemon-dressed arugula to finish it off and…

🥩 WE HAVE THE BEEF 🥩
—> Rare roast beef + heavy cream & parmesan roasted leeks + Sam & Jack’s mystery sauce (just trust us, it’s good) + lemon-dressed arugula + homemade lemon-artichoke peasant bread.

So no, St. John still doesn’t have an Arby’s.

But come October… WE HAVE THE BEEF. 😏

Another one going on the new-season list while we’re supposed to be cleaning, organizing and taking a break. 😂

AND THAT’S A WRAP! ❤️

What a season.

Seriously, thank you. To everyone who came in for breakfast, grabbed lunch, ordered catering, tried one of our sometimes-questionable special ideas 😂, told a friend about us, came back again and again, or just stopped in to say hi — thank you for another incredible season.

Now we clean. And organize. And clean some more. 🧹

There are fridges to scrub, shelves to reorganize, projects to tackle, things to fix, and a whole lot of behind-the-scenes work to get done before we open those doors again.

We’re also going to take a little time to rest our brains… although apparently not the part that thinks about food. 😏

We won’t be posting quite as often while we’re closed, BUT keep an eye on us over the next few weeks. We’re already working on new specials and ridiculous little food ideas for next season, and we’ll be sharing some teasers along the way.

And YES — Thanksgiving is still happening! 🦃❤️
Thanksgiving ordering will open when we reopen on October 1st. More details coming then.

For now, from all of us at Sam & Jack’s, thank you for a really, really great season. We’re incredibly lucky to get to feed you guys every day, and we appreciate you more than you know.

We’ll miss your faces.

But don’t worry… we’ll still be over here thinking about sandwiches. 😂

ONE. LAST. SPECIAL. 😭❤️

How the hell are we already here?! Today is our LAST DAY open for the season.

👋 THE FOND ADIEU 👋

It’s kinda like a Monte Cristo and Eggs Benedict got together and made a beautiful, cheesy little baby.

A homemade biscuit covered in Raclette & ham fondue, piled with folded ham, topped with a deep-fried poached egg and a lemon & extra virgin olive oil dressed arugula salad.

Crispy egg. Runny yolk. Raclette fondue. Buttery biscuit. Salty ham. Lemony arugula.

I mean… if we’re going out, we’re going out like this. 😏

🥣 SOUP: Turkey Broccoli Cheddar Bisque

Come see us. Come eat something ridiculous. Come say hi. Come say bye. Come have lunch with us ONE MORE TIME. ❤️

We’re closing at 2 PM today, and then we’re going to sleep. 😂

TWO DAYS LEFT!!!!! CLOSING AT 2PM!!!!!!!

FIGGIN’ SMASHED —> Today we’re taking a buttery croissant, piling it with turkey, Havarti, fig jam, arugula & hot chili oil, and smashing it on the grill until the outside is crispy and flaky, the Havarti is melty, and that sweet-spicy fig situation starts oozing out the sides.

THREE. DAYS. LEFT. 😳 CLOSING AT 2PM till END OF SEASON 🙌

Years ago, Chef Caitlin and I came up with The Dirty Louie. And like all good questionable food decisions, I’ve apparently been carrying him around in the back of my brain ever since.

Then Casey suggested chorizo fried ravioli tacos for our last week and… well.

Challenge accepted.

😈 THE DIRTY LOUIE (Ready at 10am) —> Giant spinach & ricotta stuffed ravioli, deep fried until crispy and bubbly, piled with white chorizo Bolognese, Parmesan & chimichurri, then topped with another fried ravioli.

Basically a chorizo Bolognese sloppy Joe where the bun is stuffed fried ravioli.

I woke up this morning and before my feet even hit the floor, I knew exactly what I wanted to put in my mouth today.

THIS.

Saucy Bird Express —> Crispy fried chicken cutlet tossed in a sticky soy garlic glaze, topped with a crunchy sesame cucumber salad and chipotle sauce, all shoved into a toasted sub roll.

I don’t know what my brain was doing while I was sleeping, but apparently it was developing sandwiches. And I appreciate its service. 😂

And because it’s our last week of the season, we’ve got TWO soups going today:

🍲 Sausage Tortellini Bisque

We’re using up what we’ve got and making whatever sounds really good.

John Enniss wanted this special, and I happen to LOVE Buffalo sauce, so this worked out nicely for everyone. 😂

🔥 FRANKLY, THESE BALLS ARE HOT --> Buffalo chicken meatballs tossed in REAL Buffalo sauce, blue cheese, carrot & celery slaw, and scallions, stuffed into a toasted sub roll with extra Buffalo sauce for dipping.

And since we’re here, I need to get something off my chest.

Buffalo sauce is made with Frank’s RedHot.

Not some rando hot sauce you found in the walk-in and decided to call Buffalo. That is NOT Buffalo sauce. Stop tricking people. 😂

You know how much we love pickles around here 😏 so when Crissy threw this one out there, there was really no chance we weren’t making it.

And Manager Mike gets the sandwich today…

MIKE DROP —> Hot Pastrami, Provolone, caramelized onions & our tangy pepper sauce (no one knows how to describe this sauce, it’s just effing good. Trust us), grilled on sourdough until everything gets all melty.
