Q1 2026 recorded several notable developments in the feed ingredient market, from geopolitics and supply-demand dynamics to the global trend of feed formulation optimization.

🌽 Corn continued to dominate import volumes
🌱 Soybean meal maintained a relatively high price range
♻️ DDGS remained attractive thanks to its pricing advantage
🌾 Wheat stayed relatively stable amid abundant global supply

Brazil, Argentina, and the U.S. continued to be the key suppliers to Vietnam, while factors such as energy prices, biofuel policies, and geopolitical tensions continued to shape the global commodity market.

🌾 Understanding Global Wheat Classes: Why They Matter in International Trade

Wheat is far more than a single commodity. Each class has unique characteristics that determine its end use, pricing, and market demand. For professionals in agribusiness, trading, and food manufacturing, understanding these differences is essential.

🔹 HRW – Hard Red Winter Wheat
Protein: 11–13%
Primarily used for bread production.
Known for its balanced milling and baking performance, making it one of the most widely traded wheat classes globally.

🔹 HRS – Hard Red Spring Wheat
Protein: 13–15%+
The premium choice for high-quality bread and flour blending.
Offers superior gluten strength and baking performance.

🔹 SRW – Soft Red Winter Wheat
Protein: 8–10%
Ideal for cakes, cookies, crackers, and pastries.
Lower protein and softer texture make it perfect for confectionery applications.

🔹 HWW – Hard White Wheat
Excellent for pan breads, tortillas, and Asian noodles.
Provides strong gluten performance with a milder flavor and lighter color.

🔹 Durum Wheat
The hardest wheat class, with high protein and exceptional semolina yield.
Used primarily in pasta, couscous, and semolina production.

🔹 ASW – Australian Standard White Wheat
A versatile medium-protein wheat widely used in Asian markets.
Popular for noodles, steamed breads, and a variety of food applications.

🔹 EU Milling Wheat
A broad classification covering milling-quality wheat from Europe.
Widely used in flour production, with quality varying by origin and protein specifications.

📌 Key Takeaway:

- Best for bread: HRW, HRS, HWW
- Best for pastries: SRW
- Best for pasta: Durum
- Best for noodles and Asian products: ASW
- Most versatile regional supply: EU Milling Wheat

Understanding wheat classes is fundamental for making informed purchasing, trading, and risk management decisions in the global grain market.l

Vietnam’s animal protein imports remained strong in Q1 2026, led by Meat & Bone Meal, Poultry Meal, and Feather Meal, with demand concentrated in the South. The U.S. stayed the key supplier, while Argentina and other origins competed on price amid a clear quality-driven price gap across markets.

Despite increasingly stringent regulations, rising costs, and ongoing global supply chain disruptions, imports continued to be supported by stable feed demand and limited domestic protein supply. Looking ahead, import volumes are expected to remain broadly stable in 2026, with a slight upward trend.

We recently had the opportunity to attend the S.E. Asia U.S. Agricultural Cooperators Conference 2026 in Bangkok, and it was truly a meaningful experience.
What we appreciated most was not only the exchange of market insights, but also the chance to have open and genuine conversations with partners across the supply chain.
In an industry where communication often happens through emails and documents, being able to sit down and speak face-to-face brought a different level of clarity and mutual understanding. Many topics that would normally take time to navigate became much more straightforward.
The discussions also highlighted how important consistency, transparency, and long-term collaboration are becoming in today’s market. Beyond pricing, trust continues to play a key role in building sustainable partnerships.
We are grateful for the connections made during the event and look forward to continuing these conversations and strengthening our partnerships in the time ahead.
Our sincere thanks to the organizers for hosting such a well-structured and insightful conference, and for creating a valuable platform that brings the industry closer together.

We were pleased to participate in the Australian Agrifood Connections Seminar in Vietnam, held on March 19, 2026, in Ho Chi Minh City.

The seminar provided valuable insights into Vietnam’s livestock and feed industry, with the opening presentation by Mr. La Van Kinh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Feed Association.

Key highlights:
🔹 Vietnam’s livestock sector remained stable in 2025, with strong poultry growth (+2.8%) and slight expansion in pigs (+0.3%), while buffalo continued to decline.
🔹 The pig sector is rapidly consolidating, with large companies accounting for around 74% of the sow herd.
🔹 The cattle sector (70–80% smallholder-based) is gradually moving toward commercialization, though challenges in cost and supply chain remain.

From a feed perspective:
🔸 Vietnam relies heavily on imported raw materials, mainly corn (10.9 million tons) and soybean meal (5.4 million tons), along with smaller volumes of wheat, DDGS, and animal proteins.
🔸 Key suppliers such as Argentina, Brazil, and the United States dominate the market, highlighting strong exposure to global price volatility and the need for supply diversification.

Encouraging progress:
✅ Significant gains in productivity and efficiency: 20–26 weaned piglets per sow per year (+33%), with finishing time reduced to 150 days (-17%)
✅ Improved feed efficiency (FCR 2.2–2.5) and lower mortality (2–5%) thanks to better disease control

These developments reflect Vietnam’s ongoing shift toward modern, efficient, and large-scale livestock production, moving closer to global standards.

We look forward to further opportunities to collaborate and contribute to the sustainable growth of Vietnam’s agrifood sector.

ANIMAL PROTEIN REPORT Q4 2025

During the final quarter of 2025, Vietnam maintained a strong pace of imports for animal protein by-products, including Meat and Bone Meal, Poultry Meal, and Feather Meal, with the southern region remaining the primary destination. The U.S. continued to be the main source of supply, while Argentina and Australia preserved their competitiveness in pricing. Import activity was underpinned by steady feed demand, ongoing volatility in meat markets, and insufficient local protein production. Going into 2026, import volumes for these products are anticipated to remain broadly unchanged.

In Q3 2025, Vietnam’s animal protein imports remained at a high level, driven mainly by Meat & Bone Meal, Poultry Meal, and Feather Meal. Meat & Bone Meal continued to be the largest imported product, with strong demand from both Northern and Southern Vietnam. The United States maintained its position as the leading supplier across most product categories, while Australia and Argentina also played important roles. Import prices showed noticeable variation depending on origin, quality, and contract timing, reflecting a market that remains active but increasingly price-sensitive.
