There’s a lot being said about Karen Roos and the remarkable growth of Babylonstoren right now- and from where we sit as a supplier, we can only echo it wholeheartedly.
Working with this team has been nothing short of extraordinary.
What stands out isn’t just the innovation in bringing beautiful, high-quality products to market- it’s how they do it. Suppliers aren’t treated as vendors or as sources of ideas to replicate. We’re invited in. Heard. Included. Supported.
From concept creation to packaging design conversations to logistics strategies shared over WhatsApp, there’s a genuine sense that we’re building something together. It’s collaborative in a way that’s rare- and deeply valued.
Even more meaningful is their understanding of the realities behind the scenes. There’s a real awareness of small business cash flow pressures and a willingness to work with suppliers so that, in turn, we can pay our farmers well and on time. That kind of ecosystem thinking has tangible impact.
It honestly feels less like a business relationship and more like being part of a family.
We’re especially excited that our Rose & Fig Delight jars went live on their online store this week. A product like this- rooted in simple, quality, all local ingredients- feels perfectly at home in their curated space, and it’s been a joy to bring it to life together.
In a landscape where so much focus is placed on scale and consolidation, this is a powerful reminder that sustainable growth is built on trust, respect, and shared success.
We feel incredibly proud and honoured to be part of what Babylonstoren is building. It stands in stark contrast to many conventional retail experiences- where product replication, uncertain offtake, and short-term (margin based) decision-making can undermine years of effort. Those approaches may serve individual silos, but what Babylonstoren is building is something far more powerful: an ecosystem that uplifts and enables everyone within it.
We need more businesses like this in the world.
