Women in Mining" (WiM) refers to the increasing involvement of women in the mining industry, driven by initiatives to address historic underrepresentation,

promote gender equality, and recognize the business benefits of a diverse workforce.

Key challenges for women in mining include safety concerns, work-life balance issues, gender bias, and lack of career progression, which are being addressed through strategies, policies, and leadership forums designed to create inclusive workplaces and empower women in all aspects of the industry.

Challenges and Issues
Safety & Harassment:

Women in mining face significant challenges related to gender-based violence and sexual harassment, as well as physical risks from demanding tasks and a lack of appropriate facilities.

Work-Life Balance:

The physical demands and often remote locations of mining operations can make it difficult for women to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Gender Bias:

Despite progress, gender bias and discrimination can still impede career growth and opportunities for women in mining.
Retention Issues:
While more women are graduating in mining-related fields, the industry struggles to retain them due to these on-the-job challenges.
Initiatives & Strategies

Minerals Council SA:

Through its Women in Mining (WiM) strategy, the council aims to create an inclusive environment, set targets for female representation, and foster collaborations to address obstacles faced by women in the sector.

WiMSA:

The Women in Mining South Africa (WiMSA) organization facilitates networking, career development, and collaboration through events and initiatives.

SAWIMA:

The South African Women in Mining Association works to unlock women's potential for economic emancipation through advocacy, capacity building, and facilitating access to funding and opportunities.

Company Initiatives:

Many mining companies are implementing their own WiM programs to improve diversity, attraction, retention.

Wow

If I may ask.

African countries are chasing colonizers out of their countries, why South Africa is not kicking all companies that are Western based and invest in the country.

Why ANC is so blind to see the real politics, why seeking votes while it is captured and can't move, for Matjhabeng, Consortium must make a history of developing 6 independent councillors, that will stand for community direct and defend their right to participate and benefit, I hope things will go well.
