Somewhere along the way sushi became a thing we order in, when really there's no reason we can't make it at home.

Pick up the rice and nori, a good piece of salmon from the counter, a cucumber and a ripe avo, and that's genuinely all you need. We even keep the little bamboo mats.

Then comes the fun part, where you roll a few disasters and a few that actually hold, and the whole table gets involved.

It's six o'clock, and have you noticed how the whole street starts to sound, and smell, like supper?

You around the corner and the pap hits you first. Then a few houses down, someone's going all out on gravy and braaied meat. And by the time you reach your own gate, a plate covered with a plate is waiting for you on the stove, and it's seven colours.
