Gauteng is bleeding. Women are being found murdered, and it is breaking our hearts — we have said so, and we will keep saying so, because it is true and it is urgent. We also can't ignore what the numbers show: far more men are murdered in this province and this country every single day, and so much of that grief happens in silence. No hashtag. No outrage. Just another son, brother, father gone, and a family left to carry it alone.

This isn't a competition for whose pain counts more. Every single one of these deaths is somebody's whole world ending. A mother's child either way. A family broken either way.

What worries us is watching this become an argument about which lives matter more, when the real story is simpler and more frightening: violence in Gauteng is out of control, and it is taking all of us — men, women, and children.

Soweto Farmers Market will keep standing against gender-based violence, because it is real and it is devastating. And we will keep standing for every other life lost to this violence too, because grief shouldn't need a hashtag to be seen.

We need to stop keeping score and start fighting this together — for every life. Because every life really does matter.

We are heartbroken and angry.

Another woman has been found murdered in Kempton Park — 7 women now, in just two months. Mothers, daughters, sisters, friends. Women who should be alive today.

Soweto Farmers Market stands in full condemnation of this violence. No woman should have to think twice about going for a run, walking home, or simply existing in public. This has to stop — not with warnings for women to be more careful, but with real safety, real justice, and real accountability.

Our hearts are with every family grieving right now, and with every woman living in fear because of what's happening in Kempton Park and across this country.

We see you. We stand with you. And we will keep using every platform we have — including the Soweto 76 Walkathon — to say her name, and to fight for a South Africa where women are safe.

🕊️ A FINAL SALUTE TO KGOSI YA DIPERE 🐎❤️

Today, with heavy hearts but immense gratitude, we gathered to honour the life and legacy of Enos Mafokate — “Kgosi Ya DiPere” (1944–2026).

As the Memorial Service unfolded and the Guard of Honour stood in tribute, we were reminded of the extraordinary life of a man who did not simply make history — he created pathways for others to follow. A pioneer, a champion, a mentor and a visionary, his contribution to equestrian sport, to Soweto and to the lives of young people will forever remain part of our community's story.

For us at Soweto Farmers Market, today carried an even deeper meaning. Enos opened the gates of the Soweto Equestrian Centre - Enos Mafokate Equestrian Club to us in 2021 and gave our market a home. He believed in what we were building and allowed a community dream to take root in a place that meant so much to him. For that kindness, trust and generosity, we will remain eternally grateful.

Today we stood in honour. We paid our respects. We said goodbye.

But this is not goodbye to his legacy.

His spirit lives on in every young person he inspired, every barrier he broke, every dream he encouraged, and every life he touched.

Rest peacefully, Kgosi Ya DiPere. 🕊️🐎
Your journey on earth may have ended, but your legacy will continue to ride on.

Hamba kahle, Bra Enos.
Robala ka Kgotso.

Today, we bid farewell to a true son of Soweto, a pioneer, a trailblazer, and a legend — Enos Mafokate, “Kgosi Ya Di Pere” (1944–2026). 🕊️🐎

As we lay him to rest, we honour a remarkable life that broke barriers and opened doors for generations to come. Enos Mafokate made history as South Africa’s first Black show-jumping champion and, through the Soweto Equestrian Centre - Enos Mafokate Equestrian Club, created a space where young people could discover their potential, discipline, confidence and love for horses. His contribution went far beyond sport — he showed us what is possible when courage, vision and determination meet opportunity.

For Soweto Farmers Market, his legacy will forever hold a special place in our hearts. From our beginnings in 2021, he opened the gates of the Soweto Equestrian Centre and gave us a home — believing in our vision and allowing a community platform to grow from his space. For that generosity, trust and kindness, we will always be grateful.

Today, we celebrate his life, his achievements and the countless lives he touched. Though we mourn his passing, we know that the seeds he planted will continue to grow.

Rest peacefully, Kgosi Ya Di Pere.
Your hoofprints are forever etched into the soil of Soweto. 🐎❤️
May your legacy live on through every young person you inspired, every dream you helped nurture, and every door you opened.
