The Simola Hillclimb weekend in Knysna offers an exhilarating experience for automobile enthusiasts and train lovers alike. Amidst the thrilling racing events, the Knysna Model Engineers Society, founded by Ron Etter in 1975, brings a touch of nostalgia with its meticulously crafted model trains. Etter, a retired mechanical engineer from Johannesburg, established the society to continue his passion for model locomotives and to engage fellow engineers in this rewarding hobby. Despite setbacks like the 2017 Knysna fires, the society has resiliently relocated to Rheenendal, next to Totties Country Market, where they continue to delight visitors with their model trains. Operating every first and third Sunday of the month, the society invites guests of all ages to enjoy the charming train rides for just R20. This upcoming Sunday, from 10 am to 12 pm, promises a fantastic outing for families and enthusiasts, celebrating the timeless allure of model engineering.
