We do not get to love people forever; we only get to love them while they are with usโand we should. We should love better and love deeper.
We get to live and we get to love, and we should do both betterโless calculated and less careful. Itโs like eating something healthy, something like ginger. It has many proven and possible benefits. We donโt really know if it does everything they claim it will do. The taste is sharp, even a bit burning sometimes. Itโs kind of an adventure in your mouth. You canโt not feel alive when you eat it!
And even if you donโt get all the benefits it is said to have, what is the worst thing that can happen? The worst thing is you ate something healthy that might benefit you a little or a lot. It can do no harm. You might be a fool to believe that every possible benefit it has you will get by eating itโand that is OK. Being a fool is a small price to pay for being a bit more healthy or a lot more healthy.
Ginger is a lot like love. The potential benefits are endless but not guaranteed, and the worst thing that can happen is you might be a bit happier and a lot godlier. We should not be so stingy about living and loving. We should do better.
Love is a lot like ginger, and we should all learn to love gingerโin a shot, in sushi, even just a little to feel better when life is a bit nauseating.
We should also not care too much about looking like a fool, especially a fool for Christ (1 Cor. 4:10), especially for believing in Him and trusting Him when it seems so foolish. Looking like a fool is a small price to pay for love. God told me He doesnโt need me to defend Him; He can take care of that Himself. He gains a lot more if Iโm willing to be a fool for Him. If Iโm going to be a fool, which I already am, I might as well be a fool for Him.
Love like a fool.
Trust like a fool.
Pray like a fool.
Because we donโt get to know how long we get to be here, and we donโt know how long we have with the people God placed in our lives. We just get to love who are in front of us in this moment. The test of our lives is love, and I would rather be a fool than fail.
