๐ฟ๐ฆ MEAT & HERITAGE MONDAYS
WHY FOOD BRINGS SOUTH AFRICANS TOGETHER
In South Africa, food is rarely just food.
It is the smell of a fire being lit. The sound of family arriving. The recipe that has been made the same way for years. The cut of meat everyone argues over. The stories told while someone keeps an eye on the braai.
Heritage Month gives us a chance to celebrate not only where we come from, but the food traditions that bring families, communities and generations together.
For one family, home may taste like wors straight from the fire. For another, it might be chops, steak, potjie, stew or a recipe passed from one generation to the next. South Africaโs food culture is wonderfully diverse โ but the heart of it is often the same: people gathering around a table and sharing something made with care.
A braai is about more than the meat on the grid. It is about who is standing around the fire. A family lunch is more than a plate of food. It is a place where memories are made, stories are shared and traditions continue.
That is what we are celebrating this Heritage Month: food, family, memory and fire โ all at one table.
