Cosy dinners at the lowest prices 🤎🔥 Try this hearty Beef Stew and Samp & Beans recipe and fill more tummies for less.

Prep time: 2 Hours
Samp Soaking Time: 6 Hours
Servings: 6
Ingredients: 16

For the Samp and Beans
500g Ritebrand Samp and Beans
1 Ritebrand Chilli Beef Stock cube
1 onion, finely chopped
30ml (2 tbsp.) Six-Gun Grill seasoning

For the Beef Stew
1kg Beef Potjiekos Mix
30ml (2 tbsp.) oil
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
5ml (1 tsp.) paprika
5ml (1 tsp.) curry powder
15ml (1 tbsp.) tomato paste
4 tomatoes, grated
1 Ritebrand Chicken Stock cube
500ml (2 cups) water
3 medium sweet potatoes, cubed
Salt and black pepper, to taste

Directions

Creamy Samp and Beans

1. Rinse the samp and beans well. Place them in a bowl, cover with water and soak overnight or for at least 6 hours.

2. Drain the samp and bean and place in a pot. Cover with fresh water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 2 hours until soft.

3. Add more water if needed as it cooks. Once tender, stir in chopped onion, stock, Six-Gun Grill seasoning and salt. Let it simmer gently until creamy and well combined.

Beef Stew

1. In a pot, sauté the onions until soft. Add garlic and cook until fragrant. Stir in paprika, curry powder and tomato paste, cooking for 2 minutes.

2. Add the beef to the pot. Add grated tomatoes, water or stock, and the stock cube. Stir well, cover and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the beef is tender.

3. Stir in the cubed sweet potato to the stew and continue to simmer for 15 minutes more.

4. Spoon the creamy samp and beans onto a plate. Top with the beef and plenty of gravy.

Bring comfort to the table with hearty Vegetable Soup and fluffy Dombolo 🥣✨ Perfect for those cosy winter moments, this dish easily feeds the whole fam! 💛

Ingredients
For the Soup
500g Ritebrand soup mix
30 ml (2 tbsp) oil
1 onion, chopped
2 carrots, peeled and diced
2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 cloves garlic, minced
5 ml (1 tsp) paprika
5ml (1 tsp) mild and spicy curry
1 bay leaf
2 Ritebrand vegetable stock cubes
2L water
Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Dombolo
500ml (2 cups) self-rising flour
10ml (2 tsp) sugar
2,5ml (½ tsp) fine salt
Small handful of mixed herbs, finely chopped (parsley, coriander, thyme)
50g Rama Margarine
200ml (¾ cups) water

Vegetable Soup
1. Rinse the soup mix well, cover with water and soak for at least 2 hours. Drain before cooking.
2. Heat oil in a large pot, sauté the onions until soft and golden, then stir in garlic and cook.
3. Add carrots and potatoes, stir to mix.
4. Add paprika, curry powder and bay leaves and cook for 2 minutes.
5. Add the drained soup mix and stir until even.
6. Pour in water, add the stock cubes and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer gently for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
7. Add extra water as needed. Season with salt and black pepper, then remove the bay leaf before serving.

Dombolo
1. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt and chopped herbs.
2. Rub margarine into the flour mixture until it resembles breadcrumbs.
3. Gradually add water, mixing gently until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
4. Shape the dough into golf ball-sized portions or scoop spoonfuls directly onto the soup
5. Cover the pot immediately with a lid and steam for 15–20 minutes until the Dombolo is cooked through and fluffy.
6. Keep the lid closed while steaming to prevent the steam from escaping.
