FARMED OR WILD-CAUGHT?
Wild-caught seafood now tends to be preferred by our WILD OATS customers over the farmed variety, as it matures on a more varied, natural diet & in un-contained natural settings. Wild Oats hosts both salmon & oysters, harvested only from the wild in a sustainable manner.

Our wild-caught oysters are provided by CAPE OYSTERS, harvested responsibly off the coast of Mossel Bay, but only when conditions & season allow. Delicious & a fabulous draw-card to our Saturday morning market, but the current season of heavy rains & heavy wind have limited the harvest this autumn.

When it comes to wild-caught salmon, Wild Oats management have broken our pledge in offering only “locally sourced produce”, simply because this unique product can only be sourced from the Northern Pacific & Atlantic cold-water regions such as Alaska, Japan, Russia, & Canada. Norway also is a region of cold, clear, unpolluted ocean waters, perfect for wild salmon & harvested under the unique Norwegian expertise of responsible fishing.

Our wild-caught salmon is sourced in this Northern Atlantic region, but specifically from fresh waters. This sought-after, healthy catch is provided by FRESH FORWARD FISH & available each Saturday morning, year-round at Wild Oats Market.

An international team led by University of Alicante (UA) scientists has found that increasing the share of organic farming may improve crop yields and help maintain soil health and biodiversity. Published in the journal Nature Sustainability, the study concludes that landscapes with at least 50% organic farming optimize crop yields, soil biodiversity and key ecosystem functions such as carbon storage, nutrient cycling and water regulation.
