Peddler's Trove grows their produce with health, taste and the environment in mind. There is no use of any chemicals or poisons in any of our processes. Our belief is that healthy soil ensures a healthy plant which eventually results in a healthy body. There are a number of benefits to growing as nature intended. These are explained below. Environment
Building up our soil using mulch, compost and
vermicast has many advantages. A healthy soil should be alive, with beneficial microbes and macro organisms such as earthworms, known as Biota. A high level of organic matter, called humus, is required for the Biota to feed off and flourish. In conventional farming practices this organic life is killed off by the use of chemical fertilizers and insecticidal poisons. A high humus content in the soil not only sustains the soil's Biota it but makes the soil highly fertile and also acts like a sponge resulting in far less watering. Soil and Health
Healthy soil ensures a healthy plant bursting with flavour, nutrients and minerals. Micro organisms actually assist in feeding the plant these nutrients and minerals by breaking them down into a form that the plant can easily absorb. At Peddler's Trove we have our own worm farms and at each planting a special mixture of vermicast (worm castings), rock dust and organic compost is used to plant the seeds. Rock dust is high in macro and micro elements (minerals) as it is finely ground volcanic rock. These elements are broken down by the high level of micro organisms in the vermicast and are fed to the plant. These minerals are then readily available within the plant which our bodies can easily recognise and utilise. A healthy plant equals a healthy body. Freshness
At Peddler's Trove we pick our veggies fresh to be delivered to you the very next day. It is well known that as vegetables age after picking they slowly lose their nutrient content and can oxidise. Packaging
We try to keep our packaging to the minimum. We also believe in trying to use products that will compost easily or are recyclable. We encourage our clients to recycle their glass and paper packaging. Preservatives
At Peddler's Trove we do not use any preservatives. If we precut vegetables they are vacuum packed to try and ensure longer lasting freshness. Other Tasty Treats
