I WILL REVOKE TIMBER CUTTING LICENSES IF I DON'T SEE IMPROVEMENTS - CHIEFTAINESS MOOMBA
...as she registers the Community's displeasure with Timber license holders to the PFO....

Her Royal Highness Chieftainess Moomba 10th on Tuesday, August 19th held a meeting with the Provincial Forestry Officer Ms. Ireen Chilundika and her district team at her Palace in Lukena Village.

HRH did not hold back in informing Ms. Chilundika about hers and the Moomba community's displeasure at the lack of tangible benefits to the Chiefdom from timber logging.

She expressed great disappointment at the operations going on in the timber business. She told the PFO that of the three operators, none of them had started working on their Regeneration projects.

"None of the Operators in our Chiefdom has fulfilled their pledges to the Community. Ask any Community member if they can point at any project been done here, yet timber is leaving daily! The situation is extremely unacceptable" she said.

Her Royal Highness urged the PFO to advocate for stricter laws in the revision of the Forest Act.

"I personally caught a truck load with timber not too long ago, reported the case, but the outcome of a simple fine does not go a long way to punish the wrongdoers.

"I urge you to emulate DNPW and revise your Forest Act, its too weak and does not protect the locals. It is currently going against President Hakainde Hichilema's desire for increased community beneficiation. If the status quo remains, I will be left with no option but to submit that these licenses be canceled." Chieftainess Moomba said.

Ms. Chilundika assured the Chieftainess that she would engage the License holders and give her a report of her team's findings.

She informed HRH that the Forestry department was currently working on revising the Forestry act to align it with the aspirations of various Stakeholders.

ZESCO NDOLA GIRLS LEAVE FOR COSAFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DEBUT

ZESCO Ndola Girls have left for Johannesburg, South Africa aboard Zambia Airways ahead of their debut at the CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifiers 2025.

The Ndola-based side becomes the second Zambian club to feature in the regional competition after Green Buffaloes, who have represented the country in the previous four editions.

Buffaloes famously lifted the title in 2022 after defeating Mamelodi Sundowns in a dramatic penalty shootout.

ZESCO have been placed in Group A alongside champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Namibia’s Beauties FC and Malawi’s Ntopwa FC.

Their participation comes after a remarkable domestic campaign in which they went the entire season unbeaten, sealing the league title with 31 wins and three draws in 34 matches.

The team’s success was spearheaded by striker and ZPL Women’s Player of the Year winner Penelope Mulubwa, who netted an incredible 35 goals to help end Green Buffaloes’ four-year hold on the title.
