A papaya tree is not just a fruit tree, it is a living storehouse of food, nutrition, income and natural support for healthier chickens and healthier communities."

Did you know that a papaya tree can help feed both your family and your chickens?

For many smallholder farmers, papaya is more than just a fruit. It is a source of nutrition, income and an important resource for indigenous chicken production.

The ripe fruits provide vitamins and minerals for household consumption, while surplus fruits can be sold to generate income. Papaya leaves, seeds and overripe fruits can also be fed to chickens as a supplementary feed source. Papaya seeds contain compounds that are traditionally used to help manage internal parasites, while the leaves are often incorporated into poultry diets to support bird health and vitality.

This is axactly what we are doing at one of our Green Villa hub in Mutoko. By planting papaya trees around homesteads and poultry runs, farmers can create a simple agroforestry system that provides: nutritious fruits for families, additional income from fruit sales and supplementary feed and natural remedies for indigenous chickens. Imagine if you plant atleast one tree?
