🎄🔥🌿

Farmers of Lozane Farm Shop,

On this sacred day, we gather in spirit around the ancestral hearth, where the fire of legacy burns eternal. As the birth of Christ reminds us of renewal and divine covenant, so too do our fields, our livestock, and our hands testify to the living bond between heaven, earth, and community.

May the Creator’s light guide your footsteps.
May the ancestors’ wisdom guard your households.
May the land yield abundance, and the rivers carry peace into your homes.

From Lozane Farm Shop, we extend gratitude for your fellowship in farming, heritage, and resilience. Together we walk the corridor of Hunters Road, Maputo, and beyond—anchored in legacy, uplifted by faith.

✨ Merry Christmas, blessed in ceremony and fruitful in the year to come. ✨

With reverence and gratitude,
Tawanda & Lozane Family

Balancing Work and Family in Farming
In a family farm, the line between the business and the home is exceptionally blurry. Successfully managing this integration is not just about personal well-being; it is a critical business strategy for multi-generational continuity.

3 Advantages of Managing Work-Family Time

1. Clarifies and Strengthens the Family Vision:
· How it helps: Dedicated family time allows for conversations that go beyond daily chores. It creates a space to discuss the "why" – the shared dream for the land, the legacy, and the family's values. This shared Vision becomes the north star for the business.
2. Reinforces the Family Mission:
· How it helps: When work and family are balanced, family members see the farm not just as a source of toil, but as the vehicle that supports their collective well-being. This strengthens the Mission—the farm's core purpose of sustaining the family—making everyone more committed to its success.
3. Builds a Robust Succession Strategy:
· How it helps: A balanced life demonstrates to the next generation that a sustainable, fulfilling future is possible on the farm. This is the most powerful Strategy for continuation, as it actively encourages skilled and passionate successors to stay and commit, ensuring a smooth transition.

---

3 Disadvantages of Failing to Manage Work-Family Time

1. Erosion of the Shared Vision:
· The consequence: When work always comes first, the long-term vision is lost to short-term crises. The family's shared dream fragments into individual burnout, causing the Vision for a multi-generational legacy to fade and be replaced by resentment.
2. Undermining the Family Mission:
· The consequence: The farm's Mission to support the family becomes hollow if it consistently damages family relationships. Key members (a spouse, children) may disengage emotionally or physically, viewing the farm as the source of conflict and neglect rather than a source of unity and provision.
3. Failure of the Succession Strategy:
· The consequence: The most direct risk to continuation. The next generation, having witnessed a life of constant work without balance, will likely reject taking over. Without willing and prepared successors, the Strategy for the future fails completely, often forcing the sale of the farm upon the owner's passing or retirement.

Good morning Farmers! The rains are near — good news but we must act carefully. Before you rush to plough or plant, please read these quick tips to protect soil moisture and get good germination:

• Check the local forecast (Zim Meteorological Service) and wait out heavy storms. Don’t work fields in lightning or thunder.
• Only work soil when it is crumbly at seed depth (squeeze a handful — if it forms a long sticky ribbon it’s too wet).
• Clear blocked drains and fix erosion lines now so heavy rains don’t wash our soils away.
• Control big weeds — they steal moisture and harbour pests.
• If you can, use minimum-till/direct seeding and keep stubble as cover to save moisture.
• If you must rip or plough, do so when soils are workable (not waterlogged) to break hardpans and improve infiltration.
• Apply fertiliser according to soil test — band or place near the row to reduce losses during heavy rain. If no test, use recommended rates for maize/sorghum locally and avoid excessive broadcast before heavy rains.
• Treat seed for damping-off and watch for snails/slugs after wet weather.
• Plant when the top 10–15 cm of soil is moist and the rains look established — avoid planting after a single light shower.

If you need help with variety choice or fertiliser rates, post your ward/district and crop here or call AGRITEX. Stay safe in the fields — don’t work during storms. Share this with other farmers. Tinotenda! (Send location + crop if you want a quick tailored tip.)

Longer checklist (for group discussion)

1) Immediate: walk the land, open drains, repair terraces/bunding.
2) Within days (when workable): rip across old tractor tracks, do light secondary tillage or set up no‑till planter.
3) 1–3 days before planting: apply basal fertiliser in bands or rows, treat seed, final level and firm seedbed for small seeds.
4) At planting: ensure good seed-to-soil contact; don’t leave loose dry dust over seeds.
5) After planting: mulch where possible, monitor for diseases, remove early weeds.

Image caption suggestion (short): “Rains are here — plan well, plant right. Stay safe from storms.”

Where to get help: AGRITEX office in your district, Zim Meteorological Service for forecasts, neighbour farmers with successful no-till experience.
