On September 11, we remember.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, and our community will gather at the Gazebo on Main Street from 8:30–10:30 AM for a solemn time of remembrance and reflection.

More than 2,900 lives were lost that morning, and we made a promise:

Never Forget.

This is a time to remember those who lost their lives, the families whose lives changed forever, and the first responders and countless others who stepped forward in the hours and days that followed.

It is also an opportunity to help younger generations understand what happened that day — to hear the stories, see the history, and understand why September 11 remains such an important part of our country’s story.

We hope you, your family, and your friends will join our community at the Gazebo this morning as we remember together.

My heart has been heavy since hearing about what happened Friday night during First Friday in Manassas.

I talk often about how much I wish Front Royal still had the kind of First Friday that Manassas has built — streets filled with families, friends, music, food, local businesses, laughter, and community.

And I still feel that way.

But right now, before we ask whether First Friday is cancelled or what happens next, can we please stop and think about the families?

A family is waking up without their 16-year-old daughter.

Another family is sitting beside a 21-year-old in the hospital, dealing with fear, uncertainty, and questions no family wants to face.

Those families deserve our sympathy, our prayers, our compassion, and our respect before anything else.

I cannot imagine what either family is feeling right now, and I know how shattered I would be if this were one of my own children.

My heart also goes out to everyone who was there Friday night and witnessed the fear and chaos. Even when the immediate danger is over, the effects of something traumatic can linger long after everyone has gone home.

First Friday is supposed to be about family, friends, music, food, fun, community, and supporting local businesses. It should never end like this.

To the families directly affected, to my fellow business owners and friends in Manassas, and to everyone who was there Friday night — please know that people here in Front Royal are thinking of you and hurting with you.
