I never thought I’d see the day I’d be relieved to no longer free range the Orpingtons. 😂 As much as I loved seeing them roam, they have ripped up so much pasture over the last year.
As many of you know, we separate our breeds here. Silkies, Seramas, and Orpingtons. But the Orps had always been our free rangers. After a lot of thought, we decided it was time to focus more on improving their breeding lines, just like we’ve been doing with the Silkies. It’s time for the Lavenders, Jubilees, and Buffs to catch up with the rest of the program. 😉
Moving them into dedicated pens not only helps us better manage and improve each line, but it also frees up room for more Silkie color pens and allows us to retain more grow-outs from our hatches.
Honestly, it’s already made things so much easier. Since we’re NPIP certified, it helps tremendously with biosecurity, keeping everyone on the same care and treatment schedules, and making it easier to monitor each group individually.
If you'd like some hatching eggs send us a message or stay tuned for some chicks in the coming weeks!🖤
