Only two more weekends to shop for flowers at the Iowa City Farmers Market! We’ll be there with flower bouquets of many sizes and color palettes, just as we have since early May 🧡 Our Farm Store is open Saturday morning, too - 9am-12pm. It’s going to be a beautiful weekend; hope to see you soon!

Experiments in the flower field! We ran wobblers in half the dahlia beds this weekend to protect from a light frost. It worked! We have dahlias growing in the tunnels too, so this was more a proof of concept experiment. It’s cool to see first hand that it works!

We had a light frost, so this was a perfect time to utilize the wobblers. If it was going to be a hard frost this might not have worked. The sprinklers need to run continuously until the sun has melted the ice off the plants.

It’s DOUBLE STAMP SATURDAY tomorrow! We harvested hard before tonight’s frost and are rolling in nice flowers for Saturday markets. Come to the Iowa City Farmers Market or our Farm Store and you’ll get two stamps for each bouquet you get! Our Frequent Flower cards are one way we say thank you to our repeat customers. 10 stamps gets you one free bouquet 💫 Cards roll over from one year to the next so it’s not too late to start one up this season!

The dahlias always hit their peak right before a frost. Maybe it’s the softening October light, or the cool temperatures that makes the color of the petals so saturated and rich, or the knowledge that the fresh flower season is winding down that makes these flowers so extra sweet.

We’re gleaning all the color from the field so we can share the dahlia abundance with you for one more weekend! Pick up a bouquet or two or three this weekend and celebrate the nearing end of the field growing season with us. We’ll have dahlia bunches and nice mixed bouquets available.

Where my fellow flower heads at? Let’s celebrate that we have a lot of nice fall flowers for the weekend! I spy frosty nights in the near future which means this good thing won’t last forever. Find us at the Iowa City Farmers Market 7:30am-12 and our Mt Vernon Farm Store 9am-12pm Saturday morning to get your flower fix.

Oh, dahlias! This has not been our best year growing dahlias - too much rain after planting led to tuber rot; hot days with hot nights through the summer stunted their growth; lots of rain with little sunshine through September slowed the bloom development. But now the sun is shining, the nights are cool, and the plants are finally churning out the blooms. For the past few weeks, our dahlias primarily went to our CSA members and a few lucky early birds at the Iowa City Farmers Market. Our final CSA distribution went out today so from now on we should have plenty of dahlias at our farm store and the Iowa City market for the next few weeks! Who knows when frost will take them away, but it inevitably will, so soak up these beauts while they’re here.

Farm Store hours change slightly now that we’re in the spooky month 👻 We’re now open 4-6pm on Thursdays and still 9am-noon on Saturdays.

Parking will be up in the gravel lot closest to the Farm Store until our grass parking lot dries out. Watch for signs as you drive in.

✨👏Week 16 of our Flower CSA 👏✨ We reached the finish line only to begin another race! This is the final week of our Full Season Flower CSA and the first week of our Dahlia CSA. Wowwee have we sent a lot of purdy fleurs out to members this summer. Huge gratitude to all you who commit to a season full of fresh flowers from our farm - the weekly consistency of making CSA is the backbone of our whole summer. I love making weekly recipes and formulating each week’s bouquets to look very different from the last. I’ll do a full season bouquet recap soon so we can reminisce on all the different flowers we grew throughout the months.

Our Flower CSA is such a nice weekly treat for yourself or a very lovely gift for a friend. 2027 season sign ups will open mid-winter so keep it on your mind and sign up for our email newsletter to find out when you can join in!

We’ll continue to have flowers available at our Farm Store and the Iowa City Farmers Market throughout the fall.

✨ Farm Store Update ✨ Swipe through for our fall hours at the Farm Store! We’ll continue to be open through December 19th with all the best local goods.

Here are a few special events coming up:
🐑 Lamb Ribs Night - Thursday October 15th 4-6pm. Jeremy Jeremy Wilhelm is smoking lamb ribs and we’ll have BBQ style sides. If you miss dinners at the flower farm, come back out for a food reprise!

🍁🍎 Harvest Market - Saturday November 21st 10am-2pm. Our favorite fall gathering where we load you up with so much good fall and winter vegetables, apples, meats, and flowers. Additional vendors will be present, more details coming soon.

Our store is very much at the whims of the weather, so sign up for our newsletter and check our website for updates in the event we need to close / reschedule / adjust the parking area.
