🚨 NEW LENOX — WE NEED YOUR HELP. 🚨
A few days ago, we were completely blindsided by a letter in our mailbox informing us that a portion of the prime farmland directly next to our home and the land we farm is being petitioned for a solar farm.
For our family, this is so much more than a piece of property…
My name is Hank. For those of you who don’t know me, I am a 6th-generation farmer and beside me, helping carry on my family legacy, is my wife, Kayla. Together, we are proud to continue caring for this land and building a future here, just as the generations before us did. My family has lived and farmed this exact land for generations. This is where the last six generations of Oram farmers were raised, where so many of my family’s memories were made including my own childhood, and where my wife and I planned to raise our future children. Our family has been residing on and farming this land since the 1800s.
It’s also the same farm where so many of you have supported us by purchasing our sweet corn, pumpkins, and produce.
We love our New Lenox community. But we are becoming increasingly concerned about the direction our town is heading.
Solar farms. Data centers. Large corporations. More and more neighborhoods replacing the farmland that has been part of New Lenox for generations.
At what point do we finally say enough is enough?
New Lenox was once a small farm town, and sadly, so much of what made it special has already disappeared. Farmland is being replaced by cookie-cutter neighborhoods, corporate businesses, chain restaurants, and endless development. Places that once felt familiar are becoming harder and harder to recognize, and it is heartbreaking to watch the farmland and small-town character we grew up loving slowly disappear.
And now, we have to consider what this proposed solar development could mean for the families who already call the surrounding neighborhoods home — including the very real concern that living next to a large-scale solar project could negatively impact surrounding property values.
Let us be clear: WE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS DECISION, and WE ARE NOT THE ONES SELLING OUT.
We love New Lenox and want to see it thrive. But there has to be a balance between growth and preserving the very things that made this community worth calling home in the first place.
We understand that communities grow. But once prime farmland is gone, it’s gone forever. We want our children to inherit the same beautiful farmland, open spaces, and sense of community that our family has known for generations.
That’s why we are asking our community to stand with us.
There is a public meeting regarding this proposed solar farm, and we need as many people there as possible.
📍 We are sharing the letter below with the date, time, and location.
Please come. Please bring your neighbors. Please share this post and spread the word.
And most importantly, please VOTE AGAINST THIS SOLAR FARM.
This isn’t just about our family.
It’s about protecting our farmland, our community, and the future of New Lenox.
